About Claudia
My Op-ed essays, pertaining to social and cultural issues, have run regularly in the Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper Newsday for over three years. I also contribute frequently to Newsday's lifestyle pages, and I've been an occasional essay contributor to The New York Times.
In addition, I've written hundreds of features on family, parenting and children’s issues as a regular contributor to Newsday and the award-winning magazine, Newsday's Parents & Children. Now I'm Associate Editor of Long Island Parent magazine. An expert in the Long Island bridal market as well, I served for ten years as freelance managing editor of Newsday's Long Island Weddings. The magazine was shuttered in December of 2008, and I've since launched www.GettingMarriedonLongIsland.com, dedicated to helping brides plan their weddings, for free.
One of the projects I'm most proud of is the non-fiction book, "The Neighborhoods of Queens" (Yale University Press, November 2007), which features an introduction by renowned historian Ken Jackson.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I'm fluent in Spanish. I hold a B.A. in English from Stony Brook University (1983) and I'm a long-standing member of the Society of Professional Journalists as well as the Authors Guild. I live on Long Island and raised three lovely daughters here as a single parent.
